Collin Shank
- Title:
- Defensive Assistant (Secondary)
Collin Shank enters his first season as a defensive assistant on the Texas Tech staff, working directly with safeties coach Rob Greene. Â
Â
Shank arrived at Texas Tech following three seasons at Army where he was a defensive quality control assistant during the 2023-24 seasons. He began his tenure with the Black Knights as a graduate assistant under Army defensive coordinate Nate Woody in 2022 on the defensive side of the ball.
Â
Army put together its best season in the more than 100-year history of the program during Shank’s last year on staff in 2024, finishing an impressive 12-2 overall, including a perfect 8-0 mark in the Black Knights’ first season in the American Athletic Conference. The Black Knights ended the season at No. 21 in the final Associated Press poll after topping Tulane in the AAC Championship Game as well as Louisiana Tech in the Independence Bowl.
Â
Army boasted one of the nation’s top defenses throughout the 2024 season as the Black Knights finished fourth in the FBS after allowing only 15.5 points per game. Army was also eighth in the country for total defense, giving up just 297.9 yards a game as part of a defense that was also ranked in the top 25 for red zone defense, passing defense, rushing defense and passes intercepted.
Â
Prior to Army, Shank spent the 2021 season as the tight ends coach at Franklin & Marshall College and the 2020 campaign as an offensive quality control coach at Eastern Washington.
Â
Shank began his coaching career immediately after ending his own playing career as a quarterback for Millersville University in Pennsylvania. Shank played in 20 career games with the Marauders where he totaled 3,502 passing yards and 20 touchdowns. He signed with Millersville after a legendary career at Lampeter-Strasburg where he threw for 8,012 passing yards, the second-highest total in Lancaster-Lebanon (L-L) League history.
Â
Shank graduated from Millersville in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in sports business. Â
