The Red Raiders academic excellence honored by the AVCA
LUBBOCK, Texas – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its recipients of the 2026 Team Academic Award on Thursday. Texas Tech joins 1,432 programs across college and high school to be named to the list.
This is the ninth time the Red Raiders have been on this list and the seventh under head coach Tony Graystone. Tech was also named to the list last season and before that had a five-year streak from 2019-23.
The award is given to teams with a year-long grade-point average of at least a 3.3 on a 4.0 scale. Although not on the team at the time, newcomer Maggie Boyd brings more academic prowess as she was named the CSC Academic All-American Team Member of the Year for beach volleyball at UCLA.
"It comes as no surprise to see our sport have more than 1,400 teams earn the AVCA Team Academic Award again this season," said AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. "We are grateful for the dedication of the coaches and players who make both classroom and on-court success the lifeblood of their programs."
