Weston Durham joined the Texas Tech athletics department in February 2024 as an Assistant Athletics Director for psychological health and performance. In his role, Dr. Durham oversees the staff of two other sport psychologists and is the primary sport psychologist for the Red Raider football program.Â
The opportunity on the Texas Tech medical staff marks a return to West Texas for Dr. Durham, who was a private practice counselor in Lubbock from 2013-19. Dr. Durham founded his own private practice with a focus on developing empirically supported treatment for athletes and professionals in high-stress professions. During this time, Dr. Durham contracted with various NCAA athletics departments, local sports leagues and national team athletes for consultation services.Â
Dr. Durham departed West Texas for the Tulsa area where he was a graduate assistant director at the Al Carlozzi Center for Counseling from August 2019 to May 2022. He was also a clinical intern within the Oklahoma State athletics department during that period, his first position embedded within a Division-I athletics department.Â
Dr. Durham later served a year-long doctoral internship on the sport psychology team at Lehigh University from August 2022 to July 2023. He was tabbed an assistant director for psychological resources soon after at the University of Oklahoma where he helped oversee the mental health and mental performance services to student-athletes.Â
Dr. Durham earned a bachelor’s in exercise science with a sport psychology track from Lubbock Christian University in 2011 and added a master’s in counseling psychology in 2014. He completed his doctorate in counseling psychology from Oklahoma State in 2023.Â
Dr. Durham is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association for Applied Sport Psychology.
A native of Kress, Texas, Dr. Durham, and his wife, Kathryn, are parents to two sons, Wyatt and Benny. Â
