LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech players made a clean sweep on the Big 12 Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards announced by the conference office today.
Sophomore free safety Kevin Curtis was named Big 12 defensive player of the week for his performance against Colorado on Oct. 15. The Lubbock-Coronado product recorded a career-high 20 tackles, intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble in Texas Tech?s 31-10 victory over the Buffaloes. Curtis leads all Texas Tech tacklers with 72 after six games.
Williams, a true freshman from Andrews was named offensive player of the week after rushing for a Texas Tech freshman record 230 yards on 21 carries against Colorado. He also scored two touchdowns and averaged 11 yards per carry while posting the 11th best rushing performance in Red Raider history.
Kansas State place-kicker Jamie Rheem was named specialty player of the week after kicking four field goals, including a career-long 57-yarder, in K-State?s win over Utah State.
Curtis and Williams are the second and third Texas Tech players to garner Big 12 player of the week honors this season. Running back Sammy Morris was named offensive player of the week following Tech?s victory over Texas A&M Oct. 2.
