LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech cross country runners Leigh Daniel and Kristen Koppes are featured this week in a pair of nationally prominent on-line magazines. Daniel appears as the weekly "in the chute" feature at www.trackwire.com while Koppes is featured in the "College Quad" section at www.SchoolSports.com.
Daniel, Texas Tech's first individual national champion in any sport, was interviewed in a one-on-one feature with reporter Jill Geer after her impressive third place finish at the NCAA Pre-National meet this past weekend. In the article, "the freshest face in collegiate track and field" talks about a variety of track and field related subjects including the important role her coaches have played in her success, her plans for the upcoming season and Olympic aspirations.
Koppes is featured on schoolsports.com, a national website devoted to high school and college athletics. The site chronicles different regions of the country and Koppes, from Redding, Calif., is featured in the San Francisco regional section in an article by reporter Allison Micarelli. The article, which is set to be posted by Friday morning, focuses on Koppes and her battle back from illnesses to become one of the region's top cross country runners.
Daniel and Koppes have been two of the top runners on the Tech women's team this fall and will lead the team when they compete at the Big 12 Championships in College Station on October 30.
