LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech football team began bouncing back from last week?s loss at Texas and moving forward toward this week?s Big 12 Conference matchup against Oklahoma with a 60-minute practice in shorts and headgear Monday night.
The Red Raiders worked in individual position groups on the artificial turf at Jones Stadium before beginning work on the game plan for this week?s regular-season finale against Oklahoma.
?We had a good, brisk practice, but we are still bumped and bruised some from Saturday,? head coach Spike Dykes said. ?We have a lot to play for. We have 21 seniors who want to go to a bowl and who want to go out a winner in their last game at Jones Stadium.?
Texas Tech is 5-5 overall and 4-3 in Big 12 Conference play. The Red Raiders need a victory to be bowl eligible for the seventh consecutive year. Oklahoma comes to Jones Stadium with a 6-3 record.
?These kids are resilient, more resilient than most grown folks,? Dykes said. ?I tell you one thing, they won?t roll over and play dead.?
History proves Dykes? statement to be correct. After losing 48-7 to Texas in 1995, the Red Raiders rebounded to win four consecutive games on the way to a 9-3 record and a win the Copper Bowl. Texas Tech is also 10-2 in games played the week after playing Texas during Dykes? tenure as head coach.
Saturday?s game is set to kick off at 11:30 a.m. and will be televised to a regionally syndicated audience by FOX Sports.
