Kingsbury Named Player of Week

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech quarterback Kliff Kingsbury has been named Big 12 Conference Southwestern Bell Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Red Raiders? 38-28 victory over Oklahoma, according to an announcement by the league office.
A redshirt freshman from New Braunfels, Texas, Kingsbury was 9-for-17 passing for 259 yards and three touchdowns in the first start of his collegiate career. He also rushed for another TD on a one-yard sneak as Tech overcame a 21-10 deficit for the victory. Kingsbury was starting in place of the injured Rob Peters and helped raise Tech's record to 6-5 with bowl eligibility for the seventh consecutive season.
Kingsbury is the fourth Texas Tech player to garner Big 12 player of the week honors this year. Running backs Sammy Morris and Shaud Williams, along with free safety Kevin Curtis, were also tabbed during the 1999 season.
Kansas State junior cornerback Dyshod Carter of Denver, Colo., was selected Defensive Player of the Week. Big 12 Southwestern Bell Co-Specialty Players of the Week are Oklahoma State senior wide receiver-KR Terance Richardson of Dallas, Texas, and Kansas junior free safety Carl Nesmith of Jacksonville, Fla.
