Shaud Williams Honored

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech running back Shaud Williams has been named Big XII Offensive Freshman of the Year, according to a release by the league office.
Williams helped fill the tailback void at Texas Tech created when Heisman Trophy candidate Ricky Williams was injured in the first game of the season. The Andrews, Texas native finished his first season of college football with 658 yards and seven touchdowns on 112 carries. He also set a Texas Tech freshman rushing record with a 230-yard performance against Colorado.
Williams joins six other players who garnered conference player of the year selections. Quarterbacks Major Applewhite of Texas and Eric Crouch of Nebraska shared Offensive Player of the Year honors, while Kansas State linebacker Mark Simoneau was named Defensive Player of the Year. Oklahoma quarterback Josh Heupel was named Offensive Newcomer of the Year and defensive tackle Mario Fatafehi of Kansas State was Defensive Newcomer of the Year.
