LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech football team put the finishing touches on the game plan for Saturday?s pivotal Big 12 Conference matchup against Iowa State with a 90-minute practice in sweats and shells at Jones Stadium Thursday.
As one of only five teams in the conference that still has a chance to play for the league title, head coach Spike Dykes said the Red Raiders have practiced well this week and he expects a good effort Saturday against the Cyclones.
?We are really anxious to play,? Dykes said. ?Any time after you lose, the sooner you can play, the better. This is a good Iowa State team, so we had better be ready to go sooner.
?We?ve really had a good week of work,? Dykes said. ?I really believe we understand the importance of these last three games, and you can?t win three in a row without winning one in a row first.?
A win over Iowa State would put Texas Tech in position to play for a share of the Big 12 South Division lead next week in Austin. Tech is 4-4 overall, but just one game behind the Longhorns in the Southern Division at 3-2. Iowa State is 4-4 and 1-4.
The Red Raiders will conduct a brief walk-through Friday afternoon to nail down any loose ends before Saturday?s 1 p.m. kickoff at Jones Stadium. There will be no television for the game.
