LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech football team kicked off work for Saturday?s Big 12 Conference matchup at Texas with a 75-minute workout in shorts and head gear Monday evening at Jones Stadium.
The Red Raiders worked on early installation of the game plan for the Longhorns, as well as putting in some time in individual position groups. The practice closed with conditioning drills.
?We had a pretty good little practice, Monday practice as usual,? head coach Spike Dykes said. ?We are still a little sore, a little beat up from a very physical game on Saturday against Iowa State.
?Saturday was a good win for us. We got contributions from all parts of our football team,? Dykes said. ?Now it?s time to try and gear up for a very good Texas football team.?
Texas Tech and Texas are the only two teams in the Big 12 South which control their own destiny. The Red Raiders are 5-4 overall and 4-2 in conference play. The Longhorns are 8-2 and 5-1.
A Texas Tech victory combined with a victory over Oklahoma in the regular-season finale Nov. 20 would put the Red Raiders in the Big 12 Championship Game. A Texas victory this week lands the Longhorns in San Antonio. Texas Tech has won the last two meetings in the series and four of the last six.
Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. The game will be telecast to a national cable audience by FOX Sports Net.
