LUBBOCK, TX -
Texas Tech center Andy Ellis spoke to the Junior Committee for Champions in the gym at Haynes Elementary School on Thursday, April 08.
Ellis and the kids talked about setting goals, sportsmanship, college life and staying away from drugs and alcohol. The Red Raider freshman opened the meeting by addressing the importance of goal setting and sportsmanship and then fielded questions from the group.
One of the hot topics asked about by the kids was drug and alcohol use.
"I've never used drugs or alcohol," Ellis said. "It's bad for everybody, but especially for athletes. It hurts you on the court, it slows you down and it hurts you off the court."
Several of the students asked the six foot, eleven inch Tech center how tall he was and late comers marveled at the height of the day's speaker upon entering the gym. One girl asked Ellis if he had trouble finding clothes that fit.
