Sonoma, California -
Behind the pitching of senior Emily Hayes, the Texas Tech Red Raiders improved their season record to 21-18 with a two game thrashing of Sonoma State.
Hayes, a senior from Midland, earned her first collegiate no-hitter in the first game of the doubleheader against the Cossaks of Sonoma State. In the game, Hayes threw out three batters and had three assists. The Raiders took control late in the game after Stephanie Walls hit a triple to right field that scored Jennifer Beach. Tech went onto win the game 3-0.
In game two, the Red Raiders put on a clinic for the home team as all nine players had a hit in the game as Tech cruised to an easy five inning 10-2 victory. Catcher Kristi Tunnell got things going for Texas Tech in the second inning when she hit a left field single to score Eva Harshman. Tech combined for 16 hits in the game while holding Sonoma State to six.
Tech returns to action next Saturday when they begin BIG 12 Conference play in Waco against the Baylor Bears.
