Lisa Hilgers Sets Texas Tech to Victory
June 21, 1999 | Women's Volleyball
At 5-5, Lisa Hilgers is one of the smallest setters in the country. However, she doesnt let her height stand in the way.
Hilgers has surpassed two Texas Tech records thus far on the season. Last week against Missouri, Hilgers surpassed the 5,000 career assist mark and the Texas Tech school record for assists. Against Texas A&M, earlier in the season, the Victoria, Minnesota native recorded 1,327 digs to put her on top of the all-time dig record at Texas Tech. She broke Cristine Martins record of 1,323.
"Lisa does so many things for us," Head Coach Jeff Nelson said. "Shes the best defensive player in the conference besides being a setter. When our opponents look at us and try to figure out how to beat us, I think they have to ask themselves, how do we stop Lisa Hilgers?"
So far this season, Hilgers has been tough to handle as she was named MVP at the Brion's Grill Tournament, and was an all-tournament selection at both the Red Raider and BYU Mizuno Classics.
Hilgers and the Lady Raiders (14-7) will face Big 12 opponents Iowa State on Friday, Oct 23 and Missouri on Saturday, Oct 24. Both matches will be at 7 p.m. at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum
