No. 24 Texas Tech Defeats Kansas 3-0 in Volleyball

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 24 ranked Texas Tech volleyball team used its size and defense to defeat visiting Kansas 15-2, 15-2, 15-1 Saturday evening at Lubbocks Municipal Coliseum. The Red Raiders improved to 19-8 overall and 8-6 in Big 12 Conference play while Kansas dropped to 14-12 overall and 4-10 in the Big 12.
Texas Tech surrendered only five points to Kansas, its lowest opponents scoring output of the season (tying the 5 points given up against Central Michigan). Texas Tech outblocked Kansas 11-1, outdug the Jayhawks 44-20 and outhit them .378 (36-8-74) to .010 (28-27-99) for its second consecutive 3-0 victory. The match went an hour and 10 minutes.
Sophomore outside hitter Heather Hughes broke the Texas Tech sophomore service ace record with a serve in game three.
Lori Garber had an outstanding evening as the junior hit .667, led Texas Tech with 12 kills in 18 attempts (no errors) and had six blocks. Junior Courtney Putnam finished with eight kills and .467 hitting and senior setter Lisa Hilgers ended the match with a match-high 13 digs and 28 assists.
