Red Raiders knock off Cornhuskers 73-68

LUBBOCK, Tx - Texas Tech guard Rayford Young dribbled the length of the court with 7.9 seconds left in the game to put in a go-ahead layup and the Red Raiders hung on to defeat Nebraska 73-68 Saturday night at Lubbock Municipal Coliseum.
Texas Tech saw a 15-point, second half lead turn into a one-point deficit with eight seconds remaining in the contest, setting up Young's heroics. Cliff Owens and Young each knocked down a pair of free-throws in the final two seconds to ice the victory.
On senior recognition night, Stan Bonewitz, the Red Raiders only senior, made five three-pointers and drove the lane for a crucial two-pointer in the closing minutes as he scored 19 points on the night.
Young led all scorers with 25 points. James Ware had a career night, scoring 11 points to join Young and Bonewitz in double-figures, and missing a double-double by one rebound with nine.
Texas Tech has now won two-straight at home, knocking off conference Big 12 heavyweights Kansas and Nebraska on consecutive weekends.
Former Red Raider basketball letterman were honored at halftime on a night which was celebrated as one of the last two home games for the team at Lubbock Municipal Coliseum.
The Red Raiders play Colorado in their final contest at Lubbock Municipal Coliseum on Wednesday and finish the regular season on Saturday at Oklahoma State.
