Six Red Raiders Selected in Major League Baseball Draft

LUBBOCK, Texas - Six Texas Tech baseball players were taken in the Major League Baseball draft's first 50 rounds Tuesday and Wednesday. Junior righthanded pitcher Monty Ward was the top Texas Tech player selected in the draft. He was the 107th selection overall and the fourth draftee in the fourth round by the Kansas City Royals. Last year, the Royals selected Texas Tech players Jason Gooding and Joe Dillon.
The Houston Astros selected three Texas Tech players including senior two-year All America second baseman Keith Ginter in the 10th round (302nd pick overall), junior third baseman Kevin Jordan in the 11th round (332nd pick overall) and junior catcher Brandon Buckley in the 29th round (872nd pick overall).
The Cincinnati Reds selected two Red Raiders. Junior outfielder Duane Price was picked in the 20th round (590th overall) and junior righthanded pitcher Eric Cooper was selected 710th overall and in the 24th round.
