Lubbock, Texas -
The Texas Tech softball team went looking for answers today against the University of Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners, but left with even more unanswered questions.
After falling behind 0-4 in the third inning of game one, Tech once again found itself on the outside looking in. But the Raiders (25-22) would rally in their half of the third scoring two runs behind Eva Harshman's double to center field. In the fifth inning, senior third basemen Kim Martinez hit a one run homerun over the center field fence to bring the team within one. Tech would use an explosive sixth inning as the Raiders would connect on three hits and two UTSA errors to bring in two runs that would give them the 5-4 victory. Senior pitcher Emily Hayes got the win for Texas Tech while Lee Hayes received the loss for the Roadrunners.
In the nightcap, the Red Raiders seemed to be riding off the momentum from game one as Tech scored the games first run off a Tamara Harrington single that brought in Kim Martinez. But, the Roadrunners would get a run in the second, third, fourth and seventh innings to pull away and take game two by a final score of 1-4. UTSA's Amanda Michalsky was a perfect 4 for 4 from the plate that included a seventh inning home run. Senior shortstop Paula Workman led Texas Tech with two hits on three at-bats. UTSA's Denise Briggs got the win for the Roadrunners while Emily Hayes (10-9) took the loss for the Red Raiders.
Tech will host Big 12 Conference power Missouri in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon. The Raiders will then play host to the University of Kansas in a doubleheader beginning at noon on Sunday. The games will be played at the Texas Tech Intramural Fields located next to University Medical Center.
