Texas Tech Defeats Iowa State 8-7

lUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech jumped on top early with a 6-1 lead and held on to defeat Big 12 Conference rival Iowa State 8-7 Friday at Dan Law Field. The victory improved Texas Tech's home winning streak to 25 straight games and gave the Red Raiders an 8-4 Big 12 and 26-8 overall record. Iowa State dropped to 7-21 on the season and 0-13 in the Big 12.
Texas Tech took command early. The Red Raiders got a run in the second on Lance Woodcock's sacrifice fly. Tech went up 3-0 in the third on a two-run home run from Jon Weber, his 10th of the season. The Raiders extended their lead to 6-1 in the fourth on a two-run home run from Lance Woodcock and a Weber RBI single. Jason Huth's RBI single in the fifth put Tech up 7-1.
Trailing 7-1, Iowa State stormed back with five runs in the sixth inning. The Cyclones used six singles including an RBI single from Jade O'Brien and two two-RBI singles from Beau Hampton and Spencer Allen off Texas Tech starter Shane Wright to get within 7-6.
But Texas Tech designated hitter Chaz Eiguren hit his first home run of the season in the eighth inning to keep Tech ahead and reliever Brandon Roberson shut Iowa State down over two innings to register the victory.
Texas Tech's Shane Wright (7-2) earned the victory after allowing 12 hits, seven runs and one walk over 7.0 innings pitched. He also struck out six of his 32 batters faced. Brandon Roberson pitched the final two innings for his sixth save on the season. Roberson shut down Iowa State with two runners on in the ninth inning. Iowa State starter Mike Laesch (0-6) took the loss.
Game two of the three-game series is scheduled at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Dan Law Field.

Texas Tech continued its home winning streak at Dan Law Field and improved it to 25 straight games.
Jason Huth's first triple of the season gave him 14 for his career and moved him into fourth place on the school's all-time career triples list.
