Texas Tech Defeats UT-Arlington 8-3

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech used a 10-run offensive attack fueled by a four-run fourth inning to register an 8-3 victory against UT-Arlington Tuesday at Dan Law Field. The victory improved Texas Tech to 25-8 overall and extended its home game winning streak to 24 games heading into this weekend's home series against Big 12 Conference rival Iowa State. UT-Arlington fell to 12-22 on the season.
Texas Tech jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The Red Raiders scored two runs in the first inning, two in the third and four in the fourth to go up 8-2. It was UT-Arlington which struck first with a run in the top of the first inning. Judd Thrower singled home Matt Mize to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead. But Texas Tech answered with two runs of its own in the bottom of the first as Marco Cunningham stole home on a double steal attempt in which UT-Arlington catcher Matt Anderson threw to second base. Scott Holzhauer drove home outfielder Jon Weber on a single to give Tech a 2-1 lead. Tech added two more runs in the third inning when Cunningham scored on Josh Bard's RBI double. Holzhauer drove Bard in from second on an RBI single.
Bard led Texas Tech with two doubles, a 2-4, three-RBI performance. Weber finished 1-3 with two RBI and two runs, Woodcock went 2-4 with a run and Holzhauer went 2-4 with two RBI.
The Red Raiders added four more in the fourth when Lance Woodcock and Jason Huth scored on Weber's two-RBI single. Josh Bard followed with a two-RBI double to left center put Texas Tech up 8-2.
Texas Tech reliever Steve Rowe (1-1) earned the victory after pitching one-hit ball over 3.0 innings while striking out three batters. Rowe earned the victory after freshman starter Daniel Cole struck out four batters and pitched the first four innings, allowing four hits, two runs (one earned). It was Cole's first start in his career and he surpassed career-highs in innings pitched and strikeouts (5). UT-Arlington starter Derek Denman (1-2) earned the loss after allowing four runs and four hits in his three inning appearance.
