LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team (9-4) will host Baylor University (12-0) Saturday, March 20, at 1 p.m. at the Lubbock High School tennis courts located on 14th and Ave. T. Texas Tech, ranked No. 49 in the nation, comes into the match looking to continue the momentum of last weekend's 7-0 shutout of No. 39 Oklahoma. Baylor, ranked No. 7 in the nation, is undefeated on the season and has the best record in the Big 12.
The two teams met earlier this season on March 6 at the Corpus Christi Invite. Baylor defeated an injured Texas Tech team by the score of 4-0. In the match, No. 1 Borut Martincevic was forced to retire due to injuries and No. 4 Adam Baranowski, who holds the top singles record on the team at 9-1, suffered from back pains throughout his match. The lone win came No. 1 doubles where Ryan Shupe and Dustin Hawk won their match over Johann Jooste and David Hodge 9-8.
"Saturday's match against Baylor is our biggest so far this season," Director of Tennis Tim Siegel said. "Last timed we played them we were injured and tired from playing three matches earlier in the Invite tournament. Our guys feel confident that we can play at the level of a team like Baylor. We are coming off a great win against Oklahoma. It should be a great match. I hope to see a big crowd at the Lubbock High School courts supporting us."
Admission to the match is free.
