Texas Tech Sweeps Kansas with 13-5 Sunday Victory

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech baseball team started off its Big 12 schedule by finishing off a three-game sweep of Kansas with a 13-5 victory Sunday at Dan Law Field. The victory improves Texas Tech to 3-0 in the Big 12 and 13-4 overall while Kansas drops to 0-3 in the Big 12 and 2-8 overall.
Texas Tech is next in action at home at Dan Law Field on Tuesday when the Red Raiders play New Mexico at 3 p.m.
Rightfielder Jon Weber sparked Texas Tech's offense with a big day. The junior from Lakewood, Calif. drove in four RBI on 2-5 hitting. He put Tech on top 2-0 with a two-run home run in the first inning then drove home two more runs on a fourth inning triple. The triple put Tech up 9-1.
Tech scored three runs in the second inning on two consecutive singles from David O'Keeffe and Miles Durham, an RBI groundout by Lance Woodcock an error and two more singles by Marco Cunningham and Ryan Ruiz (RBI). The Red Raiders rallied for four runs in the fourth on a triple by Woodcock, eventually scored on a wild pitch, a double from Cunningham and Weber's two-RBI double.
Texas Tech limited Kansas to five runs on 10 hits. Starter Brad Ralston (3-0) earned the victory after pitching 5.0 innings and allowing five hits and four runs (four earned). He struck out seven Jayhawk batters. Junior Brandon Roberson pitched the final four innings for his second save on the season. He allowed five hits and one run and struck out eight batters. In all, Ralston and Roberson combined to strike out 15 Jayhawk batters.
