Texas Tech Upends Missouri 8-1 in Baseball

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Texas Tech used key pitching and timely hitting to defeat Missouri Saturday 8-1 in below freezing temperatures at Simmons Field. The game ties the three-game series at 1-1 with the final game beginning tomorrow at 1 p.m.
With the victory, Texas Tech improves to 4-1 in the Big 12 and 15-5 overall while Missouri drops to 1-4 in the Big 12 and 8-6 overall.
Unlike the first game of the series in which Tech was shut out 7-0, Tech jumped on top early. The Raiders scored a run in the second inning on three consecutive bases-on-balls from Jon Weber, David O'Keeffe and Scott Holzhauer. Weber crossed the plate on Lance Woodcock's sacrifice bunt.
Tech went up 3-0 in the fourth when Scott Holzhauer hit his second home run of the season, a first pitch shot over the right field fence, and Lance Woodcock scored on an RBI single from Jason Huth. Tech made it 5-0 on consecutive sacrifice flies from Josh Bard and Brennan Burns.
Bard put the game away with a two-run home run in the seventh when his shot carromed off the right field foul pole.
Texas Tech got good pitching from starter Kevin Tracey and reliever Brandon Roberson. Tracey (4-1) went the first 5 1/3 innings and allowed two hits and one run. He struck out two batters and walked on in earning his fourth victory of the season. Roberson relieved Tracey in the sixth and went the final 3 2/3 innings for his third save on the season. He allowed only two Tiger hits and two walks while striking out four batters.
