Texas Tech Volleyball Defeats Iowa State 3-1

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech defeated Iowa State 15-0, 15-3, 12-15, 15-6 Friday night in Big 12 Volleyball action at Lubbocks Municipal Coliseum. The victory improves Texas Tech to 15-7 overall and 4-5 in the Big 12 while Iowa State drops to 3-18 overall and 1-8 in the Big 12. Tomorrow, Texas Tech hosts Missouri in the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum. The match begins at 7 p.m.
Senior setter Lisa Hilgers paced Texas Tech with a near-triple double performance. Hilgers tallied eight kills (.467 hitting percentage), 48 assists and 16 digs in four games. Sophomore Heather Hughes led Tech with a career-high 14 kills in 33 attempts for a .273 hitting percentage. Junior Courtney Putnam finished with 11 kills, Kristen Holmes had eight kills and 21 digs, Sonia Moric tallied nine kills and five blocks and Lori Garber finished with seven kills and a .455 hitting percentage in three games. Tech hit .240 (60-25-146) in the match.
Iowa State, which hit .077 (42-31-151) for the match, was led by Virginia Hoss 10 kills.
The Red Raiders earned the first 22 points of the game as Texas Tech grabbed a 15-0 win in game one and an 7-0 lead in game two. Tech won game two 15-3.
Iowa State battled back in game three, jumping out to a 10-0 lead but the Red Raiders fought back to lose 15-12. Texas Tech won the match with a game four 15-6 victory.
