About Texas Tech
Texas Tech (13-12, 7-8), led by senior All-America candidate Cory Carr, wraps up the regular season on Saturday against Oklahoma (19-9, 10-5). Game time is 12:47 P.M. Ct on big 12 T.V. via Espn regional. The Red Raiders have lost four of their last five, including an 82-65 loss at Nebraska on Wednesday. Seeds and pairings for next week's big 12 tournament will not be finalized until the end of play on saturday. Tech would lock up a sixth-seed with a victory over The Sooners. One-Third of Tech'S talented starting guard trio, Carr leads the Big 12 Conference with 23.9 points per game. He is second in conference games behind OU'S Corey Brewer with 24.3. Point Guard Rayford Young (15.7) and long-range threat Stan Bonewitz (13.2) have started every game. Bonewitz leads The Big 12 in three-point percentage (42.6) and 3'S per game (3.2).

About Oklahoma
Oklahoma, led by All-America candidate Corey Brewer, is 19-9 overall, 10-5 in the big 12 conference. The Sooners, third in the big 12, lost at Kansas on monday, 83-70. Brewer, who has been the team's leading scorer 23 times, averages 21.1 points per game overall, a conference-high 24.4 in league play. OU landed a top-four seed in the conference despite several injuries this season. Evan Wiley and Eduardo Najera are also averaging more than 10 points. Brewer is the only player in double figures in conference games. head coach Kelvin Sampson's team is 3-3 over its last six games, 6-4 over the last 10 contests.

The Series
Texas Tech'S 70-68 win on Feb. 4 in Norman evened the series at 10-all. Texas Tech has won four of the last five meetings, including three of four over the last three seasons. Tech and Oklahoma had not played since 1972 when the series was renewed in 1995-96 with an 81-69 Red Raider Victory in Norman. In the first meeting this season, Tech, down by 13 at half and by as many as 14 in the second half, won in Norman on feb. 4, 70-68, thanks to Cory Carr's game-winning basket. all-time, the red raiders hold a 7-3 advantage in Lubbock. however, OU won last year in the coliseum, 66-60, on february 19, 1997. the series began in 1945 with Oklahoma claiming a 61-31 victory.

All-America candidate Cory Carr
Senior guard Cory Carr, about to play his final game in Lubbock Municipal Coliseum, leads the Big 12 Conference in scoring with 23.9 points per game. He is averaging 24.3 in conference games. Carr has scored 20 or more points 19 times this season. He has a consecutive double-figure scoring string of 46 games, dating back to December, 1997. Upcoming Texas Tech travels to Kansas City to play in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament, Thursday through Sunday, March 5-8 in Kemper Arena. The Seedings and matchups will be finalized after Saturday'S Big 12 Games.

Head Coach James Dickey
A 1976 graduate of Central Arkansas, Texas Tech Head Men'S Basketball Coach James Dickey is in season number seven guiding the Red Raiders. He has a 132-70 Record, a winning percentage of .653. Dickey was named Tech'S Head Coach on April 10, 1991 after serving one year for the Red Raiders as an assistant under longtime coach gerald myers. Over the last three-plus seasons, tech is 82-33 for a .713 winning mark. dickey has earned district coach of the year honors four times and has been conference coach of the year on three occasions. He has guided Tech to two NCAA Tournaments, including the '96 Sweet 16. Before his arrival at Tech as an assistant coach In 1990-91, Dickey previously worked at Kentucky (1986-89) and Arkansas (1982-85) as an assistant under Eddie Sutton.

Last Time Out
Tyronn Lue scored a game-high 23 points, 17 in the first half, to lead Nebraska to its fifth straight win, 82-65, on senior night over Texas Tech. Nebraska, in winning wire-to-wire, forced texas tech into a season-high 23 turnovers while limiting the Red Raiders to a 40.8 shooting percentage. Cookie Belcher added 12 points for the cornhuskers, who led 42-24 at halftime. nebraska jumped out to a 16-5 lead in the first five minutes. Lue's three-pointer with one second left, one of three treys in the first 20 minutes, gave Nebraska its biggest lead of the half at 18 points at intermission. in the second half, a 8-2 run gave the Cornhuskers their biggest lead of the night at 50-26 with 17:13 remaining. Tech got no closer than 16 points the rest of the game. Tech-Nebraska notes * Texas Tech made a season-high 23 turnovers, giving them 45 in the last two games.
* Bonewitz hit four three-pointers, running his total to 15 over the previous three games.
* Cliff Owens notched his sixth double-double of the year. he has 10 or more rebounds eighth times.
* Cory Carr, held to less than 20 points for only the sixth time, played a season-low 33 minutes. He did not make a two-point field goal for the first time all season. * Brock Barnes notched a career-high four steals.

Senior Day
Cory Carr (Kingsland, Ark.), Brock Barnes (Perryton, Texas), Archie Myers (Fort Worth, Texas) and Da'Mon Roberts (Dallas, Texas) will play their final game in Lubbock Municipal Coliseum on Saturday against Oklahoma. Both Carr and Barnes are three-year letter winners, while Roberts and Myers are both two-year lettermen.

Home Troubles
The Red Raiders have lost their last two home games, a first since early in the 1993-94 season against New Mexico and Wisconsin. Prior to the losses to Texas and Oklahoma State, Tech had not dropped two straight conference games in the coliseum since the 1992-93 season against Baylor and Rice. Texas Tech has won 51 of its last 59 games in Lubbock Municipal coliseum for an 86.4 winning percentage in the friendly confines since early in the 1993-94 season. Before 1996-97, the Red Raiders had not lost two games at home since the 1993-94 campaign. from 1993-94 (against Texas A&M) until the Colorado game last season, Texas Tech won a school-record 35 consecutive games at home. all-time, Texas Tech is 387-152 in the "bubble." the Red Raiders own a 67-20 mark under James Dickey at home.

Hitting The 3
Texas Tech has relied heavily on the three-point shot, especially in recent games. That production has moved the Red Raiders up in the big 12 stats. Texas Tech ranks second in the league with a 37.5 percentage from three-point range, while the team is third with 7.8 treys per contest. In conference games, Tech is first in both categories, 39.9 percent and 8.7 3's per game. The Red Raiders have hit 10 or more treys in five of the last seven games and seven times overall this season. Tech has made six or more three-pointers in the last 18 games and 21 times overall this season, including in every conference contest.

Barn Burners And Heartbreakers
Four of Tech'S last seven games have gone down to the wire and decided by three points or less. Prior to the loss at Nebraska, Tech played three consecutive games that were decided by three or less. last season texas tech played eight games that were decided by five points or less. this season, Tech has been involved in seven games decided by five or less. six of those games - Oklahoma state twice, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M - have occurred in big 12 action. The recent three-game losing skid, coming on the heels of a four-game win streak, was especially disheartening. Tech lost in double overtime at Colorado and then at home by two points to Texas and then again in overtime by two in Lubbock to Oklahoma State.

Shooting Is The Key
How Tech has performed from the field has been the most solid indicator of how the team fares on the scoreboard. Tech is 12-2 when shooting a higher field goal percentage than its opponents, 1-10 when the Red Raiders do not. Tech has shot 50% or better only four times in its 15 league games. Overall, Tech has hit 50 percent of its shots eight times this season and is undefeated in all of those games.

Hard Time On The Boards
Texas Tech has been out-rebounded 17 times in its 25 games this season. The Red Raiders trail their opponents by a 3.6 margin, which ranks last in the big 12. the offensive boards have been especially a problem for Tech. the Red Raiders actually hold a 668-665 advantage on the defensive end. However, the opponents boast a sizable 344-253 advantage on the offensive boards. tech lost last season's top two rebounders - tony battie and gionet cooper - who accounted for 50.8 percent of the Red Raiders' production on the boards.

Tech'S Terrific Trio
Texas Tech'S outstanding guard combination of Cory Carr, Stan Bonewitz and Rayford Young are averaging 52.8 of Tech'S 78.0 points per game. the trio is also putting up 67.9 percent of Tech's offensive production. In Conference Play, the threesome is providing 70.2 percent of Tech'S firepower. Combined Carr, Bonewitz and Young have made all but 10 (186 of 196) of tech's three-pointers this season. They've also taken 482 of the 520 treys attempted.

Iron Men
Tech's trio of Cory Carr, Stan Bonewitz and Rayford Young rank among the top six in minutes played among the big 12. Carr (37.5) Is first, Bonewitz (36.1) Second and Young (35.2) sixth. Overall this season, Carr has played every minute five times and 40 or more (including ots) seven times. He also has played 36 or more minutes in every conference games but one (nebraska).

Back From The Brink
Six times this year tech has come back to win after being down by nine or more points. In three of its last four wins, all on the road, texas tech has earned the victory in such a manner. The red raiders made significant second-half comebacks at baylor, oklahoma and texas a&m. Most recently, tech erased a nine-point a&m lead in the final 18 minutes of last saturday's game. At ou, the red raiders erased a 13-point halftime deficit and were down by 14 early in the second half. Tech also erased ou's nine-point lead in the final 2:13 of the game. Just three days earlier at baylor, the red raiders were behind five points at halftime and by 11 with 13:31 to play in the game.

Youth Movement
Texas tech has utilized four different starting combinations this season, any of which would be among the youngest quintet in james dickey's seven seasons as head coach. For the first time since the 1993-94 season, texas tech is starting only two upperclassmen. The red raiders have started at least two seniors for the majority of the campaign in all but three of James Dickey's seven seasons as head coach, 1992-93, 1993-94 and 1997-98. Rookie help a total of nine true freshmen have started at least one game for texas tech during head coach James Dickey's seven years. The latest freshman, Johnny Phillips, has started the last 13 games - the most by a true freshman since Jason sasser and lenny holly started 19 and 14, respectively, in 1992-93. Lance Hughes also started 19 during his freshman year in 1991-92. Since becoming a starter, Phillips has averaged 6.5 Points and 4.5 Rebounds. Prior to earning a start, Phillips had been the first player off the bench six times.

Bench Help Needed
Texas Tech's bench outscored the Texas reserves on feb. 14 By a 15-2 margin, the first time in nine games the red raiders held the upper hand. Overall this season, Tech's subs have outscored the opponents' bench in only five games.

Turnover Fest
The Red Raiders Hope to take care of the basketball better against oklahoma. Texas Tech has committed 45 turnovers in the last two games at Texas A&M and Nebraska. Tech made a season-high 22 at A&M and then topped that with 23 miscues wednesday in Lincoln. Tech is making 14.5 turnovers per game this season. Nebraska had 17 steals, the most by a Tech opponent this year. At college station, the aggies notched 10 swipes against Texas Tech.

Texas Tech has started four different lineups this season. Most recently, Head Coach James Dickey has penciled in the starting five of forward Cliff Owens, center Johnny Phillips and Guards Stan Bonewitz, Cory Carr And Rayford Young.

Streaking In The Second Half

On The Road Again
Texas Tech finished the regular season with a 5-8 record on the road. The Red Raiders were 3-5 in conference play away from home. Last year, Tech and Kansas were the only two Big 12 teams to post winning records away from home in conference play. The Red Raiders were 5-3 on the road against Big 12 teams, ranking only behind the Jayhawks' impressive 7-1 mark.

Free Throw Percentage
For the season, Tech is shooting 68.8 percent, which ranks sixth. Before the Nebraska game, where Tech managed only a 55.2 clip, Texas Tech made 34 of 46 attempts over a two-game stretch for a 73.9 percentage. Texas Tech is shooting 69.0 percent to rank seventh in the Big 12. Individually, Cory Carr (86.9) ranks first in the league, while Rayford Young (85.0) is second.

League Wins
Since 1993-94, Texas Tech has won almost 72 percent of its conference games. Tech won 10 league games in 1993-94, 11 in '94-95, 14 in '95-96, and 10 in '96-97. Since 1993-94, Texas Tech is 52-21(.712) against conference opponents in regular-season games. In the two years of the Big 12 Conference, Texas Tech is 17-14, a 54.9 winning percentage.

Senior Cory Carr is second in career scoring among current Big 12 Conference players with 1,874 points. Kansas All-American Raef LaFrentz has 1,951 points to lead the conference among active players. Although Carr ranks second among the top five scorers, he ranks fifth in that group in career starts. Carr only became a full-time starter at the beginning of his junior season.

Hitting 1,000
With his 20 points at Texas A&M, Cory Carr surpassed 1,000 for his career against conference opponents, both Big 12 and Southwest Conference. He tallied 292 in his two years as a SWC player and has since scored 730 in the Big 12.

Just One Away
Cory Carr is just one point away from breaking his own single-season school scoring record in conference games. The senior guard scored 365 last year in the 16 Big 12 regular-season games. He enters the Oklahoma game with 365 points in the 15 conference games this season.

Turning It On
Cory Carr has turned on the heat in the second half recently and, for the most part, all season. At Texas A&M, Carr scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half. Against Oklahoma State, Carr scored 25 points after halftime - 18 in the second half and seven in overtime. Carr scored 20 points in the second half at Baylor and tossed in 19 of his 26 points in the final 20 minutes at Oklahoma. The second-half performances are especially impressive considering the amount of minutes Carr plays per game. Carr has played 34 or more minutes in every game but three. During the conference season, Carr has played 36 or more in every game but one.

Leading Scorer
Senior Cory Carr has either led or tied for the team lead in scoring in 21 of Tech's 25 games this season. Rayford Young has led or been tied for the team lead in scoring three times, while Cliff Owens earned his first game-high scoring performance at Texas with 22 points. Stan Bonewitz was the most recent player to lead the team other than Carr with his career-high 26 points against Texas A&M. When Rayford Young led Texas Tech against Stephen F. Austin on Dec. 30 with 21 points, it marked the first time this season Carr had not either led or been tied for the team lead in scoring. Last season, no one other than Carr or Tony Battie led the Red Raiders in scoring.

Scoring Mania
Cory Carr has scored in double digits in 46 consecutive games, dating back to last season's Fresno State contest in Las Vegas. Carr has scored 20 or more points 19 times this season. He has been held under 20 by Nebraska, Kansas, Texas twice, Old Dominion and Prairie View A&M. He has scored 30 or more six times this year.

On The Way Up
Cory Carr became the third Red Raider all-time to surpass the 1,800-point plateau, scoring 19 points against Texas. Carr is now third all-time in career scoring with 1,874 points and trails Rick Bullock (2,118) and Jason Sasser (2,102).

For 2,000 Points
Cory Carr is 126 points shy of reaching the 2,000-point plateau. The senior guard would need to score a single-season school record 724 points in 1997-98 to reach a career mark of 2,000 points that only Rick Bullock and Jason Sasser have attained at Texas Tech.

Record Pace
The Big 12's leading free throw shooter, Cory Carr is making 86.9 percent of his tries from the charity stripe. With that mark, he is tied for the single-season school mark with Gerald Myers, who also shot 86.9 percent in 1957-58.

Get Back To Normal
Cory Carr has not been his normal self from the free throw line, shooting at 72.4 percent over the last five games. For the year, Carr is shooting at a conference-high 86.9 clip. He missed a season-high four free throws at Nebraska.

Young Strong From The Line
Rayford Young, tied for second behind teammate Cory Carr in the Big 12 in free throw percentage, is shooting 85.0 percent. He is 75 of his last 82 (91.5). Twice this season he has provided late-game heroics from the stripe to help Tech win. He made four free throws in the final 10 seconds against Kansas State, each time going to the line with Tech up one point. Young sank two free throws - his first attempts of the game - with four seconds remaining to send the game at Nevada into overtime. He made all eight of his free throw attempts at Nevada, six in the overtime period.

Stan The Rebounder
Known for his long-range shooting and uncanny passing ability, Stan Bonewitz has added another facet to his game this season - rebounding. The San Antonio junior came into the season with a career rebounding average of 2.1. He has doubled that mark this year with a 4.8 average and has led the team on the boards five games. Twice this season, against Iowa State and Prairie View A&M, Bonewitz grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds. For the year, Bonewitz has five or more rebounds in 14 games.

From Long Range
Stan Bonewitz has made at least three treys in the last 19 of 22 games. He has made a combined 15 3's over the past three games. Bonewitz tied the school mark of seven against Texas A&M. For the year, Bonewitz is shooting 42.6 percent (81 of 190) and averaging 3.2 made shots from three-point range, both of which lead the conference. He led the Big 12 in three-point percentage last season with a 46.3 mark.

Big Man
At only 5-foot-11, Rayford Young is the little man on Tech's roster. Nevertheless, Young is averaging 3.8 rebounds, has grabbed three or more boards in 20 games and is third on the team with 11 blocks. He tallied a career-high tying six rebounds against Iowa State and then topped that with nine, all in the first half, against Oklahoma State. He claimed three of his blocks in one game against George Washington. Of course, for one of the few times in his career, Young had the height advantage over GW's 5-4 Shawnta Rogers.

Double Doubles
Sophomore forward Cliff Owens of Santa Fe, Texas, has notched double-doubles each of the past two games. The 6-8 inside player has upped his season totals to six double-doubles and eight games with 10 or more rebounds.

More Playing Time
Senior Brock Barnes of Perryton is the Tech veteran with five years in the program. The senior finished off the 27-point win over A&M at home by nailing three consecutive three-pointers in a 55-second span late in the second half to score a career-high nine points. At Nebraska, he tied the team season high and tallied a personal best with four steals. This season he has made his first career start and has twice been the first sub off the bench. Barnes, the former Texas 3A player of the year, has played 178 minutes, which is more than each of the previous three seasons combined (106).
