Rayford Young poured in 29 points for the Red Raiders, leading the team to an 80-73 win over the Arkansas Express Tuesday night in it's opening exhibition game of the season.
Texas Tech started the game with a 17-0 run, but, with less than 90 seconds to play, the two teams were tied at 71.
James Ware, in his first appearance for the Raiders, hit a clutch three pointer with 1:04 to play, giving Texas Tech the lead and momentum to go on to a 7-point victory.
"That's a money shot," Texas Tech Coach James Dickey said. "He just stepped up and shot it and I'm glad he did."
Cliff Owens joined Young as the only two Red Raiders in double figures for the night. Dickey used the preseason exhibition game to see his squad in a game situation as 11 players saw action for Tech.
"We got up 17 points to start and it's my fault they came back," Dickey said. "In an exhibition game you want to take a look at what you've got and that interrupted our flow a little bit."
Texas Tech finishes the exhibition season on Friday night versus Global Sports at 7 p.m. The Red Raiders open the regular season on November 19, at home against Texas-San Antonio.
