Volleyball Drops Decision to BYU

PROVO, Utah - The Texas Tech volleyball team dropped a three-game, 15-6, 15-9, 15-7 decision to sixth-ranked Brigham Young in the first round of the BYU Mizuno Classic in Provo, Utah Friday.
The Red Raiders hit just .174 in the match and allowed 21 blocks by the taller Lady Cougars. Transfer Lori Garber led the Red Raiders with eight kills in 18 attempts, while Courtney Putnam and Kristen Holmes added seven kills apiece. Lisa Hilgers was credited with 34 assists on the team's 37 kills in the match. She also led the team with 10 digs. Garber led Texas Tech with five blocks in the match.
Texas Tech dropped to 8-2 on the season with each of its losses coming at the hands of teams ranked among the top six in the nation. The other loss was to fifth-ranked UC-Santa Barbara last weekend in Lubbock. Brigham Young increased its record to 6-1 on the season. Texas Tech will play Central Michigan and Northern Illinois on Saturday.
