QUOTING TEXAS TECH HEAD VOLLEYBALL COACH JEFF NELSON
Opening Comments
"We're anxious to get our season started after three weeks of practice and competing against ourselves. The practices have been great. There's some real competition for positions. We are the biggest we've ever been and the most physical we've ever been. We've got to get better at maintaining ball control but our block is bigger an that will help. It's a lot different look than we've had in the past. We've been a small, scrappy team, now we're a bigger team. We could go 6-3, 6-1, 6-3 across the front row. That works really well with defense and blocking. I'm really excited about the leadership our seniors are providing on the court. Lisa Hilgers and Kristen Holmes, our two captains have been outstanding so far. Everyone's healthy and ready to go and we're deep."
On the Big 12 Conference:
"The Big 12 should be the best in the nation this year. Almost all the teams return their players from last year while the Big 10 and Pac 10 suffered many losses. We think it's a banner year for the Big 12. Our schedule is also one of the best in the nation- probably one of the top 10 in the country as we will host UC-Santa Barbara and Oral Roberts. Then we'll play BYU. All those teams are ranked in the country. We tried to beef the schedule up to add to our strength of schedule. Certainly, it's going to be a tough year in the Big 12."
