LUBBOCK, Texas - Q: Can you repeat last season's performance when you won the mile at the Big 12 championships and finished ninth at the NCAA indoor championships?
A: I've been injured with patella tendonitis this winter and it has been difficult been difficult to train like I did last year. Right now, I'm not in the shape I need to be to do what I did last season. But, I have been working with the trainers and I believe I can be at full strength for competition in the outdoor season.
Q: On the difference in this year's women's team versus the 1997-98 team.
A: I feel like this year's team looks better as a whole. Greg (Sholars) has added two great coaches in Dave Smith and Chris Beene and it has made a big difference in training and stability for the program. Also, we have some new girls with talent and different personalities. The chemistry changes each year on the team. This year we seem to have a good mix of personalities. The main thing is that I feel we have continued to improve each year I have been hear. It is a result of Coach Sholar's commitment to the team, ability to bring top talent into Lubbock and knowning what it takes to train to be a champion in track and field.
Q: Why did you decided to come to Texas Tech?
A: I always felt Texas Tech was a good school. I got to know Greg Sholars from when I was running at Barton Community College in Kansas. He really encouraged me to attend Texas Tech. Coach is a good person and is always there for you; he really made the decision to come to Texas Tech is a clear choice for me.
Q: What do you like to do when you are not at the track?
A: Right now I'm taking a swimming class which has been really fun and challenging especially becaue I can't swin. I also like to watch comedy shows on television and listen to Christian music.
Q: Are you the only one in your family to run track?
A: No, I had two sisters, Inez and Janice that ran at Southwest Texas State. Inez ran the 800-meters and Janice ran the 800 and 1,500-meters. Right now, they are in Eurpoe training for the 2000 olympic games. They have played a large part in my running career. It is because of them, I have the confidence you need to be sucessful in track and field. They always encourage me when I'm down and celebrate with me when I do well.
