Texas Tech Cross Country to Host Red Raider Classic

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech mens and womens cross country will conclude their home schedule with the Red Raider Classic at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock on Saturday, October 10. The women will open with at 5,000 meter race at 9 a.m. The men will follow at approximately 9:45 a.m. with a 8,000 meter race. This will be the fourth race of the 1998 season for the men and women. The Classic will feature teams from Texas and New Mexico including: Texas Tech, Wayland Baptist University, South Plains College, New Mexico State, Eastern New Mexico University and Soutwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute.
The women return home to the site of their strongest team performance of the year. On September 12 at the Red Raider Open, the women took the team championship over South Plains College and Eastern New Mexico University. Kristen Koppes (Redding, Calif.) and Tara Hangge (Richland, Wash.) lead the way with first and second place finishes respectively.
The men will look to improve on their third place finish last time at home in the Red Raider Open. Samson Ngetich (Londiani, Kenya) and David Leigh (Grapevine, Texas), who have been the top two runners for the Red Raiders this season, will look to lead their team to the top of the field. Ngetich had his best finish of the year at the Open taking fourth overall.
