NEW YORK - Former Texas Tech cornerback Darwin Brown (Tyler, Texas) has been drafted in the fifth round of the National Football League draft with the 167th overall pick by the Denver Broncos today. Brown becomes the second Red Raider taken in the 1999 draft. Defensive end Montae Reagor was selected in the second round by the Broncos yesterday
"I'm excited, relieved and happy to be drafted by the Broncos," Brown said. "They had shown the most interest in me of all the teams. I'm excited to get a chance to play for a quality organization like Denver. This is one of the biggest thrills in my life. It is goal I have been working towards my entire football career."
"I talked to Montae earlier today. We spoke about how we are both looking forward to getting the chance to play for the Broncos. It will be great to have a familiar face up there."
Last season Brown started all eleven games and the Sanford Independence Bowl for the Red Raiders. He was a third-team all-Big 12 selection by the league's coaches after recording 23 total tackles (19 solo) and five pass breakups.
