Women's Golf Finishes Third At Big 12 Championship

BOULDER, Colorado - The No. 44 Texas Tech women's golf team shot a final round 305 to finish third at the Big 12 Conference Women's Golf Championship held at the 6166 yard, par 72 Boulder Country Club. The third place showing is the highest ever for the Red Raiders in the Big 12 Championship.
For the tournament Tech shot 911, falling five strokes short of champion Oklahoma State and three strokes behind Texas.
Senior Brooke Lowrance who was the individual leader coming into today's play finished in a tie for second place with Wendy Martin of Oklahoma. Lowrance and Martin lost to Oklahoma State's Maria Boden in a playoff. All three shot 219 for the tournament.
Senior Beth Covington was the second highest finisher for the Red Raiders, tying for 16th place at 230. Junior Jamie Vannoy shot 232 to finish tied for 22nd place. Freshman Jennifer Newhouse shot a solid final round 77, giving her a total of 233 for the tournament which tied her for 25th. Junior Heather Wrede improved with each day of the event. Her final round 77 was one stroke better than the day before and a five stroke improvement from the opening round. Wrede came in 38th.
Texas Tech will be in action again on May 6-8 at the NCAA West Regional tournament in Houston. Rice University will be the host school.
