Nathan Weant, a Texas Tech alum and former assistant coach, returns to Lubbock for the 2026-27 academic year as a shared assistant coach for the Red Raiders' men's and women's golf programs.
The 2026-27 season marks Weant's fourth overall as an assistant coach with Texas Tech after previously serving three seasons (2020-23) with the men's golf program. He officially began his new role on June 1, 2026.
Weant returns to Texas Tech after spending the previous two seasons as head coach at the University of Louisiana Monroe, where he guided the Warhawks to their first multiple-win season (2024-25) since 2015 while establishing several individual and team scoring records.
In his new role working across both golf programs, Weant will assist with player development, recruiting, enhancements to The Rawls Course and team facilities, strengthen golf operations, and contribute to the continued vision and growth of Texas Tech Golf.
Weant, who competed for the Red Raiders from 2011-13, initially returned to Lubbock in 2020 after serving as an assistant coach at Louisiana-Monroe and as head coach at Indian Hills Community College.
During his first stint with the Red Raiders, the men's golf program advanced to the NCAA Championships in each of his three seasons on staff. Texas Tech matched the best NCAA Championships finish in program history in 2022 with a tie for fifth after advancing to the quarterfinals of NCAA Match Play. Weant also helped develop several standout players, including now-PGA Tour star Ludvig Åberg, who earned All-America honors and won the Ben Hogan Award during his collegiate career.
Prior to returning to Texas Tech in 2020 as a coach, Weant led Indian Hills Community College to the 2018 NJCAA Division I National Championship and earned NJCAA Dave Williams National Coach of the Year, Delnor Poss National Coach of the Year and NJCAA District 3 Coach of the Year honors. His team produced four All-Americans, including three Jack Nicklaus Award finalists.
Following his national championship season at Indian Hills, Weant joined ULM as an assistant coach, where he immediately helped the Warhawks win two tournament titles and achieve the highest national ranking in program history. The team finished as the 2019 Sun Belt Conference runner-up. During his two seasons as an assistant, ULM won three tournaments and established 17 team and individual school records. The program also earned a top-five victory over Vanderbilt, and Weant helped oversee the development of a state-of-the-art golf facility on campus.
Weant was a student-athlete at Texas Tech for three seasons under head coach Greg Sands. After redshirting his first season, he competed in eight tournaments over the next two years before transferring to Stephen F. Austin for his final two collegiate seasons. The Hallsville, Texas, native competed in 20 tournaments as a Lumberjack, recording top-10 finishes at the Bob Sitton Invitational as a senior and the Texas A&M Reveille Challenge as a junior.
