LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech University Women's Golf Team will host the 1998 Jeannine McHaney Memorial Tournament Monday and Tuesday at Lubbock Country Club.
The Red Raiders will welcome Texas teams SMU, TCU, Lamar, Hardin-Simmons and McMurry to the two-day event. Big 12 rival Oklahoma as well as Oregon State and Wichita State will also participate in the 54-hole tourney.
The nine-team field will challenge the par-72, 6,102-yard Lubbock Country Club beginning with 36 holes on Monday. The tournament will conclude with Tuesday's 18-hole final round. Action begins at 8:30 a.m. on Monday and 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
Oklahoma, SMU, Wichita State, Lamar and Hardin-Simmons participated in the inaugural event last season, won by Missouri. Missouri's Amelia Moses and Tech's Priscillia Hunt tied for medalist honors.
"We are very excited to be starting off the season at home," Texas Tech director of golf Jeff Mitchell said. "It should be a confidence booster to play on your home course at the beginning of the year. Lubbock Country Club is in excellent shape and should lend itself to some great golf."
Texas Tech returns four of its five golfers who participated in last season's NCAA West Regional Championships, including senior All-America candidate Brooke Lowrance (Synder, Texas). The Red Raiders also return senior Beth Covington (Sonora, Texas), junior Jamie Vannoy (Sandy, Ore.) and sophomore Priscillia Hunt (Phoenix, Ariz.).
"We are returning All-American Brooke Lowrance and one of the top 10 freshmen from last year in Priscillia Hunt," Mitchell said. "Jamie Vannoy, who won the Utah-Dixie Classic last spring, is also returning and is looking forward to a great year."
Texas Tech also returns juniors Alana Soliz (Lubbock, Texas) and Heather Wrede. Mitchell welcomes freshman Jennifer Newhouse (Bryan, Texas) to the 1998-99 squad.
