Dykes Recognized By All American Football Foundation

LUBBOCK, Texas - The All American Football Foundation announced today that Texas Tech head football coach Spike Dykes will be recognized with the Johnny Vaught Lifetime Achievement Award for Head Coaches. He will be honored at the Foundations 18th Banquet of Champions on Thur., July 15, at 6:45 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency (Downtown) in Dallas.
Former Red Raider head coach J.T. King also will receive the award. Others receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award are Dennis Francione (New Mexico, TCU), Jim Wacker (Southwest Texas, TCU, Minnesota), Fred Akers (Texas), Henry Frnka (Tulsa, Tulane) and Odus Mitchell (North Texas).
Former Tech Athletic Media Relations Director Joe Hornaday will receive the Scoop Huggins Award for Sports Information. Hornaday served the University as the sports information director for 16 years, until being named assistant athletic director for public relations three years.
Tech graduate John Scovell will be honored as an unsung hero for his work with the Cotton Bowl. Scovell, a 1967 graduate of Texas Tech, is currently the chairman of the Woodbine Development Corporation.
