LUBBOCK, Texas - After getting the newcomers in and conducting four practices earlier this week, the Texas Tech football coaching staff welcomed 80 upperclassmen back to campus Friday.
?I sure was glad to see everyone. They look to be in good shape, anxious and are ready to go,? head coach Spike Dykes said. ?I don?t know if there is anything else you could ask for.?
The Red Raiders took physicals and underwent conditioning tests Friday before closing the evening with a team meeting. There will be no practices this weekend, but Saturday and Sunday will be busy days for the players with academic and NCAA compliance meetings.
The first full-squad practices are scheduled for Monday, with workouts set for 7:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. The Red Raiders will work in shorts for three days before putting on full gear for the first time Thursday.
Texas Tech opens the 1999 season Sept. 6 in a nationally televised game at Arizona State. The Red Raiders home opener is Sept. 18 against North Texas.
