LUBBOCK, Texas - A 90-minute practice in shoulder pads and helmets Sunday afternoon signaled an unofficial end to preseason drills for the Texas Tech football team and has left head coach Spike Dykes is pleased with what he has seen.
?It?s been good,? Dykes said following the workout at the grass practice fields just southeast of Jones Stadium. ?This is a good bunch of kids. I know I?ve said this a lot the last couple of weeks, but it?s the truth so you can?t say it enough.
?We have some finishing touches to put on over the next few days, but our conditioning is good and everyone seems to be grasping what we are doing,? Dykes said. ?What else can you ask for??
The Red Raiders spent Sunday afternoon working against Arizona State schemes, working on recognition and game preparation. Dykes said that he thought the players looked fresher Sunday after being a ?little dead-legged? Saturday.
Monday will be a mandated off day for the Red Raiders as classes begin on the Texas Tech campus. Practice resumes Tuesday afternoon.
Kickoff for the first ever meeting between Texas Tech and Arizona State is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. CDT at Sun Devil Stadium Sept. 6. The game , which kicks off the 75th anniversary of Texas Tech football, will be televised nationally by Fox Sports Net.
The Fox announce team of Steve Physioc, Tom Ramsey and James Lofton will provide the commentary for Texas Tech?s 106th all-time televised game. This will mark the 32nd time the Red Raiders have been televised nationally.
