LUBBOCK, Texas - Working to make the most of this week's open date, the Texas Tech football team conducted the first of eight closed practices leading up the Big 12 opener against Texas A&M Oct. 2 at Jones Stadium.
The Red Raiders (1-2) worked for just under two hours in shoulder pads and helmets at Jones Stadium. Head coach Spike Dykes said that while there was some preview work for the Aggies on Tuesday, the bulk of the practice was devoted to correcting mistakes from last week's game against North Texas.
"The best thing about an open week is you can get back to fundamentals and that's what we wanted to focus on," Dykes said. "We had a good day's work today on both sides of the ball."
Fullback Sammy Morris, who has been sidelined with a shoulder bruise, returned to practice Tuesday. Morris suffered the injury during the first half of the season-opener at Arizona State and has been sidelined since.
Morris, a senior from San Antonio, is also celebrating the birth of his first child. Morris' wife Leslie gave birth to a daughter, Kiera, Friday night prior to the North Texas game.
Texas Tech will practice Wednesday and Thursday before taking the weekend off. Game week preparation for the Aggies begins Monday. All Red Raider practices prior to the Texas A&M game are closed to the public.
According to the Texas Tech Ticket Office, only a limited number of seats remain for the Texas A&M game. Tickets are $35 and may be purchased by coming by the ticket office or by calling 1-888-GOBIG12.
