Flugence Tops National Rankings

LUBBOCK, Texas - Sophomore linebacker Lawrence Flugence (Klein, Texas / Klein) leads the nation with 12.8 tackles per game, 1.75 more than Virginia's Byron Thweatt, who is second on the list.
Flugence also leads the nation with 64 total tackles on the season and ranks first in the Big 12. Among league linebackers, Flugence and teammate Dorian Pitts (Lubbock, Monterey) are first and second, respectively.
As a team, Texas Tech ranks fourth nationally in total defense and second in the Big 12 behind Kansas State. The Red Raiders rank 11th in scoring defense, allowing only 11.8 points per game. That total also ranks the team third behind first-place Kansas State and Texas in Big 12 stats. Texas Tech ranks second nationally against the pass and first in the Big 12.
In addition to Flugence and Pitts, John Norman (Midland, Texas / Lee) ranks 10th among linebackers with 7.4 tackles per game. That total also ranks him 24th among all league defenders. Kevin Curtis (Lubbock, Texas / Coronado) is tied for third in fumbles forced with two on the season, while he ranks second among league defensive backs with 9.4 tackles per game. Defensive back Mark Washington (Sweeny, Texas / Sweeny) is 11th overall with 9.0 tackles per game.
