Fall Season Complete For Women's Tennis

The final tournament of the fall season for Texas Tech women's tennis team came and went this weekend in College Station, Texas. The tournament was delayed due to bad weather, however play did resume in the ITA Regional.
Six Red Raiders traveled this weekend to compete in the 28 team tourney. Two players from Tech were seeded 17th, senior co-captain Alenka Ovin and sophomore transfer Barbara Schraml. Ovin and Schraml both finished the weekend 2-1.
Ovin started the tournament off with a big win against Big 12 conference opponent Paola Stephen of Baylor, 9-8. She advanced to the next round and defeated Kit Carson of Texas A&M, 8-4. Falling in the next round to No. 3 seed Anna Monhartova of Tulane, 8-4. Ovin posted a .500 record for the fall by going 7-7.
Schraml defeated Phyllis Wilunda of UTSA, 8-1 and Callie Dand of UTEP, 9-7. In the third round, Schraml fell to No. 12 seed Jessica Roland of Texas A&M. Schraml closed the fall season by posting a 8-4 mark.
Also participating in the tournament for Tech were Kendall Brooks, Beverly Dawson, Sonnnia Orellana and Noel Ruiz. Brooks and Orellana finished the tournament with a 1-1 record while Dawson and Ruiz closed out with a 0-1 record.
In doubles action, the Red Raiders had three different teams representing the squad. Each doubles team posted a 1-1 record.
The Red Raiders will resume action next spring at the new Mcleod Tennis Center off of Brownfield Highway in Lubbock against Abilene Christian University on Jan. 31, 2001.
