Tech Track Signs Three

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech track and field coach Wes Kittley announced the signing of three high school athletes to national letters of intent.
Jonathan Johnson, ranked No. 1 in the 800 meters by Track and Field News, inked his letter of intent with the Red Raiders. The senior from Abilene High School in Abilene, Texas, has a personal best of 1:49.60 in the 800.
He finished second in the 800 at this past year's Texas High School state meet. Johnson also won the event at the 2000 National Scholastic High School Championships and the Golden West Invitational.
Kittley's other two signees were on the women's side, as the Red Raiders received letters of intent from Licretia Sibley of Everman, Texas, and Stephanie Hodge of Haskell, Texas.
Sibley took second in the 400 meters at this past year's Texas High School state meet in a time of 53.81. She won the event in 53.30, her personal best, at the 2000 National Junior Olympics.
Hodge finished second in both the 100 meters and 200 meters at the 2000 Texas High School state meet. She ran the 100 in 11.78, and finished the 200 in 24.18. Hodge won the 400 at the 2000 Golden West Invitational.
Kittley also announced Wednesday that Olavi Paavo will transfer after the Fall semester to Tech from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La. Paavo is from Estonia, and has a personal best score of 7159 in the decathlon, as well as 7-1.75 in the high jump and 24-0 in the long jump.
