LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech track and field coach Wes Kittley added three more signees Thursday, inking commitments from LaToya Fry and Steven Maddox.
Maddox comes to Tech as a much-heralded distance runner from The Colony High School in The Colony, Texas. He finished second in the 3200 meters in a time of 9:13.82 at the 2000 Texas State Meet. Maddox also took fifth in the 1600 at the state meet in a time of 4:21.07.
"We feel he's the best distance runner in the state of Texas, "Kittley said. "He's run low nine-minutes in the two-mile as a junior, and he finished 18th in Kinney FootLocker national meet last year. He's a great find and nationally very, very good."
Fry is a senior at O.D. Wyatt High School in Mansfield, Texas. She posted a fourth-place finish in the 400 meters at the 2000 Texas State Meet.
"We're really thrilled to get her. She's a great relay person, runs in the low 54's on the split. She really adds to the group we have at Tech. She is also a great find."
Fry and Maddox are the fourth and fifth signees of the early period for Coach Kittley, as the Red Raiders signed three other track and field participants Wednesday.
