HOUSTON, Texas - Mother Nature played a role in Sunday's practice schedule as steady rains and temperatures around the 50-degree mark forced the team to move workouts from Rice University to the turf at the Reliant Astrodome.
The team practiced for 90 minutes in shorts, shoulder pads and helmets and began putting the finishing touches on the game plan for Wednesday's matchup with East Carolina in the inaugural galleryfurniture.com Bowl at the Reliant Astrodome. The game is set to kickoff at 7 p.m. and will be televised live on ESPN2.
Prior to Sunday's workout, both teams enjoyed barbecue and a rodeo at the Foreman Ranch west of Houston. A friendly competition was the theme of the day as local rodeo professionals represented each team and competed for points. Texas Tech narrowly escaped with the win after the Red Raiders won the hay-stacking contest in the final event. Members from each team also competed in a stick horse relay in addition to the hay-stacking contest.
A visit by members from both teams to the Texas Children's Hospital is on tap for Christmas day.
Texas Tech closes out game week workouts on Christmas day with a scheduled hour-long workout at the Reliant Astrodome at 5 p.m.
