The Texas Tech athletic department announced today that Red Raider baseball player Chaz Eiguren has been cleared by the NCAA to play this spring. The university appealed to the NCAA after Eiguren did not qualify under the NCAA-mandated satisfactory progress rule.
The Broomfield, Colo., native batted .340 last year with seven home runs and 24 RBI. In Big 12 play, he hit six of his seven home runs and posted a .442 average. He is expected to fill the designated hitter role for the Red Raiders in 2000.
Texas Tech opens the season on Wednesday when they host West Texas A&M at 3 p.m. All games can be heard on KXTQ-950 AM with Sam Stephens calling the play-by-play.
