LAS CRUCES N.M. - The Texas Tech Red Raiders used timely hitting in the 7th inning to rally from a 2-1 deficit and defeat the McNeese State Cowgirls 4-2 in the second game of the Troy Cox Tournament in Las Cruces. The win improves Tech to 3-11 on the season. Dana Yocum(7IP, 5H, 1ER) took the win and improves to 2-2 on the year. The win also marks the first career head coaching victory for interim head coach Carla Marchetti who took over at the helm earlier in the week.
Tech was trailing 2-1 in the seventh inning when Sandy Butler was hit by a pitch and moved to first base. Lynsey Haij walked and Eva Harshman laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Butler and Haij. With runners at second and third and two outs, Shauna Briggs drilled a pitch into the gap in right center, scoring both runs. Paula Workman singled to bring in Briggs, making the score 4-2.
Yocum retired the Cowgirls in order in the bottom of the inning to square the game away.
The Red Raiders are back in action Saturday when they play Oregon State and Penn State.
