Red Raiders Defeat New Mexico, 13-10

The Texas Tech baseball team defeated the New Mexico Lobos for the second time in seven days. The Red Raiders won 14-11 in Albuquerque last Tuesday and were victorious today in Lubbock, 13-10. Shaun Larkin and Eric McLamore each hit their first home run of the season while Chad Reynolds won for the second time in as many starts.
Tech got on the board first with a pair runs in their opening at bat. Marco Cunningham and Scott Holzhauer lead off the game with back-to-back walks and eventually scored the two runs on a wild pitch and a Chaz Eiguren single.
New Mexico scored one in the top of the second before Tech added four in the bottom of the third. Larkin highlighted the inning with a two-run blast to right field for his first home run as a Red Raider. However, New Mexico answered with three runs in the top of the fifth and one in the sixth to make the game 6-5.
In the bottom half of the sixth, the Red Raiders sent 11 batters to the plate as they scored five runs to make the game 11-5. Holzhauer lead off the inning with a single to left and later scored the first run on a wild pitch. In his second at bat of the inning, he drove in the fifth run with a bases loaded walk.
Texas Tech added a run in the seventh and eighth with McLamore's solo shot leading off the seventh inning. In the eighth, a Trey Lunsford single scored Larkin.
The Lobos rallied in the top of the ninth with five runs. New Mexico lead off the inning with four straight hits before Clancy Fossum came out of the bullpen to record the final three outs of the game. Reynolds, in his second start, allowed five runs (two earned) on eight hits and two strikeouts over 5.0 innings to pick up his second victory of the season.
Tech is now 9-8 on the season while the Lobos fall to 8-10. The Red Raiders will be action this weekend when they host the San Diego State Aztecs. First pitch on Friday night will be at 7 p.m. Saturday's game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. and Sunday first pitch will be 1 p.m.
