HORNS HOLD NARROW ADVANTAGE IN SERIES WITH RED RAIDERS
Texas leads the all-time series with Texas Tech 52-50, including this season's 72-59 win in Lubbock. The Longhorns won the initial meeting in the series Dec. 15, 1939. Texas Tech's longest winning streak of 10 games came during a five-year stretch from 1969-74. The Horns rattled off 11-straight from 1988-93. The two teams have played at least once every year since 1958.
TEXAS TECH HEAD COACH JAMES DICKEY
Texas Tech Head Coach James Dickey is in his ninth season as the Red Raider mentor with a 154-99 overall record. Dickey has guided the Red Raiders to two NCAA Tournaments, including 1996's Sweet Sixteen appearance. Tech also has made a trip to the NIT under Dickey. He is third all-time at the University with 154 wins, trailing Gerald Myers (326 wins / 1971-91) and Polk Robison (254 wins / 1942-46, 47-61). The Red Raiders won the SWC regular-season title in 1995 and tied for the honor the following season. He became only the second coach in Texas Tech history to take a team through an undefeated conference season, when the Red Raiders finished 14-0 in the SWC in 1996. He also holds the distinction of the being the only coach in school history to record a 30-win season (1995-96). He is a two-time Southwest Conference Coach of the Year.
DICKEY VS. TEXAS
During his eight-plus seasons at Texas Tech, head coach James Dickey is 7-14 against the Longhorns. Texas won the first four games against the Red Raiders under Dickey's tenure, but Texas Tech bounced back to win seven of the next 11 games, before falling in the last six.
RED RAIDERS CASHING IN AT THE LINE
Texas Tech leads the Big 12 in free throw shooting at 70.3 percent. Despite a 65.1 percentage in Big 12 games, the Red Raiders continue to dominate at the line. In 19 games this season, Tech has connected on 282-of-401 attempts. Rayford Young leads the team with 81.2 percent and is second in the Big 12.
LOOK WHO'S LEFT
Maybe it's unique, maybe it isn't, but two of Tech's top six contributors are left-handed. Mario Layne and Jayson Mitchell average 13.2 and 6.6 points per game, respectively for Tech.
REJECTION RECORD
Brodney Kennard is rapidly moving up the blocked shots chart. Kennard leads the team with 48 blocks this season and ranks second on the single-season blocks list at Tech behind Tony Battie (68). Kennard ranks sixth all-time at Tech with 85 rejections.
