LUBBOCK, Texas - A steady rain that set in for the day forced the Texas Tech football team inside the friendly confines of the Athletic Training Center South of Jones Stadium for day seven of spring drills.
"It was just a so-so day," head coach Mike Leach said following the workout in shorts and helmets. "We got better toward the end, so I was pleased with that.
"We are getting better a little at a time, but I am really impressed with the work ethic of this bunch," Leach said. "If we continue to work as hard as we are working now, I don't see any reason we can't compete with the people on our schedule."
Friday's drills were divided due to being forced to work inside. The defense worked for the first hour in the ATC while the offense was in meetings, then the two groups flip-flopped before coming together for about a half-hour of team drills to close out the day.
Texas Tech is scheduled to scrimmage for the second time this spring Saturday at 10 a.m. Depending on the weather, Leach will make a decision Saturday morning whether to work on the grass practice fields or in Jones Stadium. All Red Raider practices are open to the public.
The Red Raiders have eight practices remaining this spring, including the annual Red-Black Game April 15 at Jones Stadium. Kickoff for the game-type scrimmage is set for 7 p.m. There will be a flag football game between former Tech players at 6:30 p.m. All Red-Black Game events are free.
