LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech softball team (14-28, 3-4) has faced a number of tough contests against ranked foes this season. This weekend the Red Raiders face another when they take on the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman on Saturday and Sunday. Oklahoma (43-5, 7-0) comes into the game ranked No. 6 in the nation in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Poll. Game times are scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
"We've faced a lot of top competition this season, " Tech interim coach Carla Marchetti said. "Playing the UCLA's and Fresno State's of the world helps us to prepare for these types of games. This will be a tough pair of games without a doubt, but we've seen lots of good teams this season so our girls won't be in awe."
Junior pitcher Amanda Renfro leads Texas Tech. The All-American candidate is first in the Big 12 conference with a 1.15 ERA and has thrown four no-hitters this season. Tech's pitching ranks among the best in the conference. However, the team's hitting is still the lowest in the Big 12 at an overall average of .210. Centerfielder Sandy Butler is leading the team in hitting with an average of .264.
Oklahoma enters the weekend as the best hitting team in the conference. Their team batting average is .325. The Sooner pitching is equally solid, boasting a 1.61 team ERA, second in the Big 12.
