LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head basketball coach James Dickey announced today that Brannon Hayes (Port Arthur, Texas / Thomas Jefferson) has signed a national letter of intent to attend the University and compete for the Red Raiders beginning in the 2000-01 season. Hayes is the third signee of the spring period and sixth overall.
"Brannon gives us much needed help on the front line," Dickey said. " He is a rebounder, shot blocker and has a tremendous upside. Brannon has a frame on which to add both strength and bulk. He is a quality person and very athletic."
Hayes averaged 16.7 points and 12.3 rebounds per game at Thomas Jefferson High School as a senior. The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and the Texas Sportswriters Association named the 6-foot-8, 200-pound forward to their respective All-State First Teams. He also earned Co-Most Valuable Player honors in District 20AAAA and landed on the All-Region First Team.
Hayes joins Andre Emmett (Dallas, Texas / Carter) and Mikey Marshall (Tulia, Texas / Tulia) in the spring signing class. Marcus Shropshire (Grand Prairie, Texas / South), Jamal Brown (Dallas, Texas / Fort Scott CC) and Jermichael Miller (Houston, Texas / Wheatley) all signed with Texas Tech in the fall period.
