LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech softball team played a double-header against the Nebraska Cornhuskers this afternoon at the Texas Tech Recreational Intramural Fields. The Red Raiders came out on the short end in both contests, losing a 2-1 extra inning battle in the first game and falling 5-1 in the second game. The losses drop Tech to 12-27 on the season and 1-3 in the Big 12. For Nebraska (27-15, 4-0) the wins were their 13th and 14th consecutive victories.
Game one was a classic pitchers dual between two of the Big 12's best hurlers, Jenny Voss of Nebraska and Amanda Renfro of Tech. Both teams remained scoreless into the 10th inning. In the top of the 10th the Huskers scored a run to go ahead 1-0. However, Tech answered in the bottom of the inning when Suzie Gomez scored from third on a wild pitch from Leigh Ann Walker. Walker had replaced Voss in the seventh inning. In the 11th inning Nebraska scored a run when Amanda Buchholz scored from third after an error by Tech third baseman Lynsey Haij. The Red Raiders were unable to answer and the Huskers came away with the 2-1 victory.
Game two was not as close. Nebraska got homeruns from Jamie Fuente and Jenifer Williams in the second and sixth innings respectively. Tech's run came on a solo shot off the bat of Paula Workman. Penny Cope earned the win for the Huskers while Dana Yocum(3-8) took the loss.
